Computing and ICT is an integral part of our curriculum. It is taught both as a discrete subject and in a cross curricular way when the opportunity presents itself. Knowing how to use computers and IT equipment is also a life skill.  At Dorothy Barley Infant school, we recognise that pupils are entitled to a broad and balanced computing education with a structured, progressive, approach to the learning of how computer systems work, the use of IT and the skills necessary to become digitally literate and participate fully in the modern world. Pupils are taught using a range of equipment: Desk top computers in the computing suite; iPads, iPods and Chrome Books in the classroom and around the school; Bee and Blue Bots to learn programming skills.

Our computing and ICT curriculum is based upon the framework developed by school based and specialist borough teachers of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. However, due to the rapid development of new technology and resources, lessons are reviewed and adapted as needed.

The framework is structured to ensure progression through the year groups. The framework covers five strands: Programming, Data, Communication, Digital Literacy & Research and Multimedia.

Class teachers are responsible for adapting their lessons to meet the needs of all their pupils.
