The Home learning is based on the teaching and learning that the children would have been receiving in class, with many of the activities being the same wherever possible. Over the course of the week, we ask that the children complete as many of the home learning tasks as possible. Home learning will be placed on the school website weekly and is for those children who are having to self isolate at home. There will also be homework set weekly, this can be found by clicking on the homework tab.
You can email us at email@example.com if you have any problems or queries.
This term our topic is transport. Next week our work will be based on a book called ‘Mr Gumpy’s outing’ by John Burningham lots of different animals want a ride in Mr Gumpy’s boat which eventually capsizes. The children will have lots of fun role playing the story in the water tray and we will make sandwiches and have a picnic like they do in the book There is a nice animated story on You tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDYU7rw33NE&safe=trueThe children will be making boats out of junk modelling materials and trying them out in the water tray to see if they float. . We will focus on the vocabulary;- boat, the animal names and some of the action words;- kick, flap, hop and chase. The children enjoyed playing with the train track last week so we will continue to show them how to put the track together and play with the trains. In maths we will continue to learn about shapes and will extend the children by looking at patterns especially repeating patterns. When you are out with your children point out shapes and patterns that you notice. Children will be going on another shape hunt to see which shapes they can find in the garden we will then make a repeating pattern with the shapes they find. We will also be making pictures and playing games with shapes and patterns. Topmarks maths has an excellent shape monster game and a repeating pattern train game. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/shapes. In music we are learning to shake and bang different instruments and to stop and go when prompted, we always start with a clap your hands video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipJvZ_dbolA&safe=true
The children really enjoy cooking and it helps them to become familiar with different food. Next week we will be making sandwiches, spreading the butter on the bread and cutting them into triangles. We will also be continuing with sensory play each day.
If you are supporting your child to learn at home I have included a number of activities which are related to the book. Continue with the listening activity from last week, children need repetition to help them learn and this activity can be extended when the children are ready.
